Friendship

Here is a summary of last night's 24t7:

The night started out with great food and music as usual. After that I gave a talk about the importance of having close Friends, using the friendship of David and Jonathan (1 Samuel) as an example. the main point of the night was to show how important it is to have a close friend or friends who you share your faith and values, friends that will encourage and support you but also hold you accountable and help you get back on the right track when you stumble. Of course there is no better example of this than Jesus himself, who befriended sinners. He accepted them but not their sin and helped them to change.

We discussed this further in our small groups and kids were challenged to strive for these kinds of friendships. they were encouraged to find friends and adults who would hold them accountable and build them up in their faith.

We end every night with a song called Tell the World. This week my prayer is that these youth go out and tell the world about Jesus through their friendships.

Have a great week,
Peter

Ikon 24t7

last night at 24t7 we talked about the difference between entertainment and enjoyment. We live in a world that is all about entertainment. it seems people need to constantly be entertained or we're bored. while entertainment can be a good and relaxing thing, we need more. God created us to enjoy the people and creation around us, to interact with people and enjoy the simple things.
We looked at Ecclesiastes 3 which starts out "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven".
there are times to be serious, to be sad, to work, etc... But there are also times to just have fun, laugh, and enjoy being alive. That's just how life is. We hope that at Ikon we are able to enjoy the good times we have with each other and build relationships which will ultimately lead to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Enjoy your week!

In the YMC

It has been so great to get in to the new YMC this past week with the first Ikon on Sunday night and our first "Next" last night. There was a lot of excitement both nights from youth and leaders and i feel both nights went really well. The Youth ministry at Trinity is really blessed to have what we have.
Gratefulness has been the theme of our opening nights. Besides having some rocking music, we talked about the history of youth "space" at Trinity and how it has developed over the last 4-5 years. We also talked about what has been given (time, money, labor), why it has been given, and how we can show our gratitude. Basically all we have now at the YMC is because of the members of our congregation and the belief they have in our young people and the potential they have to be icons of God. My prayer is that our youth show their gratefulness by taking ownership in this place, continuing to be involved, and encouraging others to be involved.

Thanks again for your continued support of this Ministry. Have a great weekend.
